The Coronation Big Picnic Lunch with The Mayor at Sandwell Valley

As Big Lunches will be held on this day across the country, The Mayor of Sandwell will be joining celebrations with his own Big Lunch at Sandwell Valley.

The Sandwell Valley Coronation Big Lunch will be a Picnic with the Mayor and all are welcome. Bring your sandwiches, snacks and drinks and join The Mayor celebrating the King’s Coronation.

Live Screening of the Coronation Concert at Sandwell Valley

5pm until late Sunday 7 May

A huge FREE to attend LIVE screening of the Coronation Concert being held at Windsor Castle.

Join us at Sandwell Valley Showground before the concert begins and enjoy diverse performances from entertainers from across Sandwell. Then settle down for an evening of world class entertainment as we broadcast the concert live from Windsor.

Visit our range of street food vendors or bring a picnic. There will also be fair rides, community stalls and children’s crafts and games.

We will be lighting up the trees behind the screen in red, white and blue and will have our own special finale at the end of the night.

Showcasing our local community is important to us and stalls for charities, volunteering organisations and not-for-profit groups are free on the evening. Organise a Street Meet or Street Party

Saturday 6 May to Monday 8 May

Celebrate the Coronation with your neighbours, family and community. We are encouraging people to take part in street meets and street parties across the borough – whether on the traditional Big Lunch date of Sunday 7 May or anytime across the weekend. This year we have made the process of hosting free street meet and street party events much easier. Find out more here: www.visitsandwell.com/street-parties

Organise a larger celebration in a park or green space

Saturday 6 May to Monday 8 May

We have some magnificent open spaces in Sandwell that are great for celebrations. If you would like to host a larger event in a park or green space, you can find more information on the process here www.sandwell.gov.uk/organiseevents

Take Part in the Big Help Out

Monday 8 May

The Big Help Out will highlight the positive impact volunteering has on communities across the nation.

In tribute to the King’s public service, The Big Help Out is encouraging everyone to have a go at volunteering in their local area.

We want our communities to have a big impact in Sandwell on this weekend and there are some great ways you can ‘help out’. Find out more here: www.letsgosandwell.info

Design a Card to go the Palace

The Mayor of Sandwell will be launching a competition across schools and children’s groups in the Borough to design a celebration card. The card will be from the people of Sandwell to congratulate King Charles III on his Coronation and will be kept as a national record. The competition will be launched on March 1, 2023 and will be open for entries until March 31, 2023 when schools break up for the Easter holidays.

Tree Planting in nominated parks

To celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III and the monarch’s birthday, trees will be planted in a number of parks across the Borough in and around November 14, 2023.

These will form a lasting dedication to the King.
